Mount Kenya - Blueline Hotel

The Blueline Hotel is situated on the road from Naro Moru town to the Mount Kenya Naro Moru Park Gate and has been our main base for all our climbs on the western side of Mount Kenya since 1996. The hotel is run by an inspiring lady called Nyokabi, who is a long term friend of Moving Mountains and Adventure Alternative in Kenya. She runs this family hotel with a similar ethos to how we run Adventure Alternative in Kenya and although it is certainly not 5 star accommodation it has a safe, quiet environment with clean rooms and a friendly atmosphere and easy access to both the Naro Moru and Sirimon routes on Mount Kenya.

Nyokabi has used the profits from Adventure Alternative clients to invest in the hotel, improve the facilities and expand the site of the hotel. When we first visited the Blueline Hotel it only had a few chalet style twin rooms and a small bar and kitchen but now it boasts a wide range of facilities, including;

  • Large bar and restaurant which is very popular with climbers and locals
  • New campsite with covered cooking/meeting areas and toilet/shower block
  • Children's playground
  • Lots more rooms providing a varied range of family, twin, single and dorm style accommodation
  • 2 large meeting/conference rooms which can be used as dining rooms when there are large groups staying

The Blueline Hotel is also central to a couple of long term Moving Mountains projects and as such it also receives lots of Moving Mountains volunteers and visitors who are in Kenya working on the development projects at Tigithi Primary and Secondary School (Tigithi is a beautiful 20 minute walk from the Blueline Hotel, past small farms, across the Tigithi River and through some forest) or at the Solio Community Development projects (7 different villages set up recently for internally displaced persons, most of whom were squatters on the lower slopes of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya).

Any visit to the Blueline Hotel will have a warm welcome and at an altitude of over 2,000m it is the perfect place to acclimatise before tackling a climb on Mount Kenya.
