Volunteering and Electives
Volunteering and electives
In conjunction with our charity Moving Mountains we offer volunteering trips and electives for students, school trips abroad, and university and charity groups who want to work with an award winning organisation that is genuinely making differences on the ground. We also run medical electives in Nepal and Kenya, and we are an approved activity provider for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
Volunteering abroad not only enables you to see a new place, it also gives back to the local community in a meaningful way. In many ways, you experience a side of a country few visitors ever see. Moving Mountains is our sister charity. Through this charity, we connect with local grass-roots operations in each country. By participating in Fair Trade Volunteering, we ensure every trip we run gives back to the community in a way that supports a specific need for that community.
For more information about volunteering, be sure to read below our current offerings.
One of our premier programmes is our physician volunteer trips to Kenya. Join our Medical Camp in Kenya and help those in need of medical care in one of the poorest regions in East Africa. We set up a free camp where villages can receive basic medical care. We also work with a Children’s Home to make sure that children have access to the medical facilities they need. For additional medical trips see our Medical Electives Page.
In Nepal, we also run medical camps. These camps differ as they are open to students of medicine and dental hygiene. At the camp, we not only work with local doctors to treat people, but we also teach basic first aid, proper hygiene, and other health education. Volunteering in our sister communities in Nepal means you will be hands on in the development of education and infrastructure in the region. The primary focus of our camp is to see and help as many people as possible in a ten-day time.
We also provide volunteer opportunities in Borneo. Our focus in Borneo is all about the environment. The local people are making an impact helping to re-plant some of the destroyed rainforest. We combine the trip with a jungle safari and a rare look into the daily lives of the Penan people. Discover what it takes to rebuild a rainforest.
We run amazing and safe school expedition trips to Borneo, Kenya, and Nepal. The world is your classroom with Adventure Alternative. Each of our programmes combines travel, learning, and social work. Safety is our number one priority and our staff is professionally trained to provide you and your students with a safe learning environment.
Furthermore, if you are a university student then you are in luck, we offer a variety of trips for students at the university level, including medical camps, RAG trips and university expeditions. Our Uni Adventure in Borneo connects you with the landscape, teaching you jungle survival and connecting you with the local people. Be sure to check out the many options we offer to university students.
Combining tourism and volunteer efforts creates a unique experience for both the traveler and the local community. Connecting with a local community provides a lasting effect on all who are involved. At Adventure Alternative, we love to team with Moving Mountains to make genuine impacts in local communities around the globe.
