Thanks for a fantastic time out here, fingers crossed I can get back out soon!
(Africamper)At Adventure Alternative we believe fully in our staff, logistics and training methods. We believe we have the best team possible to look after your every need. All of our staff have proven abilities in all aspects of your expedition, gap, safari or trek. We run a long-term program of internal and continual development headed up by Adventure Alternative’s MD, Gavin Bate.
Expedition companies as a whole will recruit seasonal staff who work on a trip based / short-term contract. As Gavin explains he saw this as a weakness:
“For me, having worked very hard to build Adventure Alternative and more importantly the companies
reputation and safety record I find it very hard to imagine placing a group of clients into the hands of someone who I haven’t observed in all manner of situations or tested under
pressure. I want someone to make the right decision no matter what the circumstance. Obviously
each person is an individual and has different ways and methods of implementation however when it comes to
safety there is no compromise.”
“The only way I saw the development and continuation of strong morals was to trust in the many friends and colleagues around the world who have proved themselves to me time and time again. A long time ago I started training these individuals and have proudly watched them develop. Now the likes of Rose, Kelly and Kevin; (who I met many years ago living on the streets in Nairobi) now stand tall amongst their community as leaders and examples and rightly so as they are now the directors of the Kenyan company.”
“With all of the people you will meet on expedition whether it’s myself, Chris or Andy from the UK office or the many leaders and staff in Kenya, Nepal, Borneo, Tanzania or Russia you will find a common and uniform level of professionalism and a team of individuals who will look after you excellently and uphold all principles I hold dear in terms of health, safety, instruction and advice.”
We have a great team of staff covering all the regions and areas where we work. This ranges from qualified
mountain guides to cooks, from first aider’s to nurses – our team is comprehensive and each individual is
appropriately trained and qualified for the job’s they undertake.
Our mountain staff, for example of Kilimanjaro, are all trained personally by Gavin and have completed their Tanzanian guiding courses and are extremely experienced. They speak good English and they are very attentive.
In each region we also have very strong links with governing bodies and hospitals. No matter where you are in the world we have the ability to get you, quickly and safely out of there - whether to a clinic, hospital or back home. Our strong links with Pro Poor Tourism, Tourism Concern and of course the Moving Mountains Trust means that we have the respect of the communities where we work. It also means we have been involved with hundreds of projects and have strong relationships with police, doctors, airlines, mountain rescue teams and all of the National Park managers. In any situation we can look after you.
If you have a look at 'Our Staff' you will find our main staff in the various countries. Obviously it is impossible to cover everyone however here you will find the background and expertise of the main team. If you need more in-depth info please don’t hesitate to contact us.
