Sasha is a one-time Russian rafting champion and our climbing guide in that part of the world, a man who has such extensive knowledge of the culture and history of most regions in Russia that any trip is made all the more memorable for not only his constant flow of information but also for his humour and wonderfully friendly character.

Sasha has guided trips in all the main wilderness areas of Russia including Kamchatka, Baikal, Caucasus and especially Mt Elbrus where he has worked with Gavin for many years. Together the two of them have a 100% success record on the mountain.

Sasha lives in Moscow with his family. His wife Alyona is a remarkable woman and one of Russia's finest midwives. He and his wife have just had a fifth child - Fenya - and she is a lovely baby girl. Their four other children are called Lucy, Andrey, Gala and Genya. Any visit to their apartment is an experience in overwhelming Russian hospitality!
