Trekking Kilimanjaro - Food, Accommodation, Porters

trekking kilimanjaro - using tentsCamping

Generally we camp on Mt Kilimanjaro in tents. Camping is liberating and really makes you feel as if you are on an expedition!  Nothing to worry about, it is actually very easy and hygienic and there is plenty of privacy and comfort. If you haven’t camped since childhood, don’t worry, this is really an enjoyable way of ascending the mountain and the word should not be associated with hardship or discomfort. We find everyone prefers it and that, as usual, any worries are dispelled on the first day. The tents are excellent mountain tents and they accommodate two people. We have sleeping mats for your use and also spare equipment if you need it.

Food

All our food is completely fresh and the meals are extremely tasty and well prepared. Three course meals, fresh meat with assorted vegetables, salads, desserts, soups, popcorn, biscuits and a complete range of beverages including herbal teas. All served in comfortable mess tents with tables and chairs. We want you to enjoy your holiday on Kilimanjaro and that means exceptional food! A lot of people instantly associate camping or mountain trips with an unappetising mess to force down. Absolutely not in this case! We offer different menus to cater for all tastes, lots of really fresh supplies and fruit. Our cooks are all well experienced in Western tastes so for example expect a lovely soup with bread starter, tomato and avocado side salad followed by chicken casserole with boiled potatoes, julienne carrots and a fresh fruit medley to finish with, then coffee and chocolate for supper.

How much do you carry?

We use porters to carry the  bags and the gear and the food, but you will be at least expected to carry a daysack with some of your own personal equipment which you need for the day such as water, spare clothes, camera and waterproofs. This is never more than 5 or 6 kgs. Every person will have their own porter carrying their bag so nothing ever gets lost.
