Thanks for a fantastic time out here, fingers crossed I can get back out soon!

For the latest prices please refer to the website page for itinerary and prices.
The current cost of a 3 month Gap Kenya Experience is £1850.00 all inclusive land only.
The price includes the following
Transport in Nairobi and fuel where necessary for the period of your placement, airport transfers and transfers to upcountry schools.
All your accommodation for the period of your time in Kenya in our comfortable Kenyan house with all utilities supplied. Plus house items such as pots, pans, bedsheets, toilet paper, lanterns, and mattresses. All you need to live!
Food and living allowance each week for the duration of your stay. This is given to you in cash right at the beginning of your stay and you need to budget for food and local transport to get to school. You can use it for weekend visits, or however you wish. Our staff are always on hand to show you how to budget, what to buy, how to shop, how to negotiate and how to prepare meals. This is a major part of the experience, you manage your own life in Kenya and we provide all the back-up.
Kenyan staff on call all the time during your stay. We have up to 27 staff who are working for us all over Kenya. Wherever you are we have representatives in that exact town you are in. We have drivers, cooks and teachers and nurses and many staff who are all on hand to assist in every way. Quickly they will become your friends and through them you will learn about, and become a part of, the Kenyan society.
UK administration and organisation. We organise all your placement logistics and the placement in the school. We are also on hand all the time by email and by phone to contact in case of a problem. You will have the mobile number of the Director himself, so if you want to he will call you directly and deal with any issues. We do provide a very comprehensive support and back-up because we know our placement is unusual. You have your own independence and the schools are very needy so we have to be sure of our level of support.
The teaching in the school including tea and lunches. You will become a member of the school teaching staff. Part of your payment to Adventure Alternative goes towards the maintenance costs of the school which is often supported by our charity. So you are making a direct contribution – through your visit – to developing the host community. This is called pro-poor tourism and is direct aid in action.
It does not include
Vaccinations - estimated £50.00
Malaria tablets - Malorone is £3.00 per tablet (one per week)
International Flight - estimated £600.00 to Nairobi airport.
Travel insurance - estimated £100.00
Kenyan visa - £35.00 for 3 months (normal tourist visa you can buy at
the airport on arrival)
Personal Expenses - Anything outside your living allowance which we
provide for you, for example phone cards or souvenirs.
Generally people find the allowance is enough to live
quite well.
Independent travel - Completely dependent on what you would like to do but
estimate £30 per day for a camping safari..
Note on independent travel and weekend visits etc
You may wish to take time out and visit a national park or go on a safari or go to the coast. This is to your expense and our staff will help to cost this for you.
You are most welcome and indeed encouraged to use our own safari vehicle and staff and equipment. We will offer you a very good rate for using the vehicle and you only need to cover the cost of staff expenses with an allowance of 500 Kenya shillings per day per person and then all the actual operating costs of park entry and so on. It’s essentially a non-profit trip. The ‘profit’, if you like, is made on the vehicle hire.
For example national park entry is now minimum $30 per person per day plus about $5 for a car. Camping is around $6 per day, depending heavily on where you are going, and food is estimated in lodges and restaurants to be about $15 per day.
We will charge you £30 per day using the vehicle if it is available and this is excluding fuel. On average a days fuel costs about £20.00 depending on safari or road use. Availability of the vehicle – which is a 9 seater – is dependant on our safaris so it is best to book well in advance. If you therefore had 5 or 6 people then it is quite economic, but not for 2 people. In many cases people use local transport once it has been sighted and agreed upon with my staff. We have a responsibility for your safety which means we do not want to see you disappear for the weekend, so therefore we make a point of having someone accompany you. This is not Big Brother mentality, it is genuine recognition of our role and commitment to your safety and enjoyment. You will far more enjoy the experience anyway if you are with one of our guys who is 100% reliable and trustworthy and who is directly employed by Adventure Alternative.
Payments
You need to pay a deposit of £250.00 or 350 euro if you are accepted onto the placement scheme with us, and we then operate a system of instalments. The final balance must be paid at least 8 weeks prior to departure. All monies are kept in a client account for security and every payment will be receipted.
All payments must be made in sterling or euro to Adventure Alternative Ltd. We will provide you with our bank details if you wish to make a transfer. You can also pay online with a credit card through our website but you have to pay Paypal for this service so we recommend using this facility sparingly.
Adventure Alternative is a Limited Company and a registered tour and expedition company with full tour operator, employer’s liability and public liability insurance.
Summary
We are charging around £1,850.00 (see web for latest prices) and you can probably estimate another £150.00 costs in Kenya (personal expenses) and a further £800.00 UK costs ( flight, insurance, vaccs, malaria tabs and visa ).
That's a maximum total of about £2750.00 for the full three months.
