Thanks for a fantastic time out here, fingers crossed I can get back out soon!
(Africamper)Our Commitment and your Decision
We want to be sure our trip differs from other Elbrus expeditions, particularly on the issue of quality and what you get for your money. Many expeditions operate a system of kitties or exclusions which means that, although the trip might seem cheaper at first glance, later on you find that it does not include items such as meals, cable cars or permits.
We offer an all-inclusive price which includes everything in-country. You can go to any restaurant and order any meal you want. We also include all the cable car rides and all the taxis and even the saunas you may want to enjoy. There are no additions.
You only need to bring cash for personal expenses like souvenirs or drinks or a Russian massage. The snow machine to Pastukhov Rocks on summit morning is optional and costs 200 euro between 8 people.
We also see trips offering shorter itineraries to climb Elbrus. We believe that our itinerary is just right for getting the best acclimatisation, the best experience of the region and the best fun. The Caucasus Mts are beautiful and the Russian culture very appealing, so we offer one programme that is really the best.
Also many trips require you to make a summit from the Bochka Barrels. We do not; in fact we have excellent contacts with the Directors of both Bochka and Priut-11, so we use both huts and we always summit from Priut Hut which is better and gives an increased chance of summitting. We also train people to use crampons and an ice axe safely. We provide acclimatisation hikes and all the huts on the mountain to sleep in, we provide a wonderful cook and most of all we have truly excellent guiding -
Adventure Alternative have been guiding and climbing Elbrus for 8 years now and have established one of the best reputations in the region for safety, good mountain sense and professionalism.
Here are some comments from happy people!:
Liam Boyle, July 2006: My second trip so I knew what to expect. Walking was good, weather was great. First day acclimatization walk was quite tough. Sasha as last year was great. He is friendly and professional. Summit day was excellent.
Paul Mc Keagney, July, 2006: Thank you very much for helping me achieve one of the biggest challenges in my life. You showed great leadership by patience, understanding and helping us through. I hope to walk with you again.
Holly Keith, August 2006: Sasha is a GREAT man and GREAT guide and he tells a pretty good joke. I would follow him up (and safety down) any mountain. Thank you Sasha.
Jonathan Waugh, August 2006: We would have been lost without Sasha (quite literally in the blizzard on Elbrus). Sasha ensured food. Accommodation and buses were always available on time – no mean feat in Russia. Cheers!
Michael O’Connor: Amazing. The walking has been great but tough – summit day was incredibly exhausting. The hotel in Terskol was fine and the local cafes satisfactory – although more variety in food would be welcome. If possible the basic nature huts were a bit of a shock. Sasha was very professional and facilitating overall a very positive experience to date.
Colm Faulkner: My first time walking and had a great trip. Would recommend company. Guides looked after people very well. Olga meatballs were very nice too.
Loretta Needlham: Sasha was a very experienced and capable guide on Elbrus. He looked after me on the mountain, I was suffering from attitude illness, headaches and fatigue – he encouraged and motivated me to complete the climb (up and down) and for his help I am very grateful. I would travel with Sasha on any trip – he has a lovely personality and is very helpful. P.S. Sasha you are very good at treating women, well better than Irish men!
